Family therapy sessions are designed to involve all family members in the therapeutic process, recognising that family dynamics play a crucial role in a child’s emotional and behavioural health. These sessions aim to improve communication, resolve conflicts, and create a more supportive and cohesive home environment. By addressing systemic issues and fostering understanding among family members, family therapy helps to strengthen family bonds and promote healthier interactions.
During family therapy sessions, each member is encouraged to express their thoughts and feelings in a safe and structured environment. The therapist facilitates open and honest communication, helping family members to listen to and understand each other’s perspectives. This process can reveal underlying issues that may contribute to familial tensions and conflicts, providing a foundation for resolution and healing.
Family therapy also focuses on developing problem-solving skills and strategies for managing conflicts constructively. By working together, families can identify and change negative patterns of behaviour, creating a more harmonious home environment. Additionally, these sessions can help families develop a deeper understanding of each member’s needs and challenges, fostering empathy and support.
The collaborative approach of family therapy ensures that the progress made in individual therapy is reinforced and supported at home. It helps to align the family’s efforts towards common goals, promoting a unified and effective approach to the child’s development and well-being. By strengthening family bonds and improving communication, family therapy creates a solid foundation for long-term emotional and psychological health for all family members.
Sessions are held at our Play Studio in Essendon, providing a dedicated space for therapeutic play.
However, we understand that attending the Studio may not always be convenient, so we offer outreach services to homes and schools as well. With my background as a teacher and school counsellor, I am well-equipped to work in both school and early childhood settings.
We can travel up to 30 minutes from our office, with the possibility of extending to further locations upon request. Please contact us for more information.
We welcome both NDIS-funded participants and private clients to our services. Whether you are accessing therapy through the National Disability Insurance Scheme or as a private individual, we are here to support your unique needs.
